End of game crash

Post by danmcc » Sun Jan 16, 2011 5:26 pm

I have a consistent crash after a game has ended, I exit then press the team stats on the game info screen. The issue resolves with a reboot and I assume it is due to memory leakage. I reboot at the half to limit the memory issues but I still crash. Just curious if there is a way to stop the crashing?

Love the app btw. I tried it last year but couldn't get a feel for it during game play, I couldn't keep up. But after trying a few test games and a scrimmage it all comes together. Being a long time user of the baseball app, I am happy to see a similar positive experience with this app. Keep up the good work.

Glad you are having an overall positive experience... sorry to hear about the crashing. We have had a few reports of crashes, so we know there is something there, we just have not been able to reproduce the issue. If anyone can give us steps to make it happen in a consistent way, we are sure we can get to the bottom of it quickly. But we have tried reproducing ourselves, and have been unable to do so.

A couple of questions... are you using it on iPhone or iPad? If iPad, what mode do you typically use for scoring? Game mode or Coach mode? How long are your games typically? Any chance you can submit a crash report? (They are available from within iTunes).

If you have any set of steps that can consistently reproduce the issue, please do let us know. In the meantime, we will continue hunting. Thank you.

fyi... we submitted an update to Apple tonight (v2.30) that we hope addresses the crashing. Without being able to reproduce it consistently, we won't know for sure it is fixed until there are no more reports of it after 2.30 is approved. But just wanted to let you know.

I am using an Itouch model mb533LL, version 4.2.1.

The games last 1:15 minutes or so including time outs, etc. I reboot at the half so boot to finish game to crash is about 35 minutes. I don't know how to send crash reports from Itunes but would be happy to send them to you if you have a how to.

I just replicated it on a test game. It doesn't seem to do it if you are in the middle of a period, but at the end of a quarter hit exit, ok and go back to the game info screen. It crashed as soon as I touched the screen, I didn't have to get to an icon.

Thank you... we will use this info to try and confirm the fixes we submitted to Apple, or try and reproduce if possible.

I downloaded the new update last night and played out the 4th quarter of the test game I have been using previously. After the quarter ends I hit the exit, yes buttons the app crashed. The crash occurred without my touching the screen, the crash occurred as I rotated the Itouch to vertical vs horizontal view. Hope this helps.
I am scoring 2 high school games tonight, I'll report back after the games to see if they go any different.

We have actually found the issue now. There was an issue in the "Foul" dialog that could cause a memory leak. If you entered fouls during the game, and then had a low memory condition (it is actually normal to have a low memory condition, so this alone is not an issue), then when you exit the scoring screen, it would have the crash. There could also be a similar situation if you viewed the shot charts, but that sounds like the less likely scenario for you as you have to have already exited the scoring screen to view shot charts.

We submitted v2.35 to Apple today to correct this issue.

Thank you, I will look forward to the new release. The games I scored tonight had the same crash issue and there were plenty of fouls so perhaps that is the issue.

Just an update. I have scored several games with my Itouch and have had no crash issues.

I recently purchased an Ipad and have scored my first two games, WOW. Really good app and great for in game info for the coach. The shot charts broken down by All and by quarter are very helpful.
