Held Up or Advanced by Batter?

Post by wcrapps » Thu Jun 02, 2011 9:39 am

I am not sure how you are supposed to score this basic detail.

Man on First. Batter hits a single. Man on First is Advanced by Batter to Second. Then it asks about the Batter. Do I say First, Advanced by Batter, or held up? For the first couple of games, I have done it both ways. Wondering if this affects anything, and what the appropriate way is...

Thanks.

it does not matters ...Advance by batter or held up at first. statistics will be the same. some cases it just makes more sense to say "held up" sometimes "advanced by batter". your choice. really no statistical difference.

According to the app instructions, you would say the runner that got to 2nd was "Advanced by Batter" and the guy that hit the single made it to first and was "Held Up". The reason the app asks you about the hitter after he reaches base is because something COULD happen after the single (or whatever). If nothing did happen, then he was technically held up. I don't think you would use "Advanced by Batter" for the batter himself because you already used "Single" to describe that. So Single, then Held Up, meaning nothing else happened.
