Scoring a failed pickoff attempt

Post by TexasRebel » Sat Mar 27, 2010 12:26 am

Situation: Pickoff attempt at 1st (only runner on), perfect throw hits the 1b in the arm (E3), runner advances.

I tried scoring a failed pickoff attempt as the runner being safe on a pickoff attempt 1-3 but the scorebook showed the runner reaching on ABx

I tried scoring as reaching 2nd on an error, but there are no details about the PO attempt... (this way looks correct on the scorebook)

What is the "pickoff attempt" button for if not for a failed pickoff attempt that advances a runner?

Pickoff Attempt is for exactly what you are saying, scoring pickoff attempts. Failed pickoff attempts will not show on the scorecard as that only shows how people advanced bases. It WILL show in fielding stats as pickoff attempts, and will show on pitch by pitch, play by play, and iScorecast.

In the situation you describe above, you would probably want to score as a Pickoff Attempt first, then runner advace to second on Error (touch runner, Safe, Second, Error, and it will then ask who made the error). This way it will show E3 on the scorecard as the way the runner advanced, and you will also have a record of the pickoff attempt.
