Tournament Baseball: Scoring Tie Breaker inning

Post by brentwalker » Wed Mar 17, 2010 6:18 pm

Often in tournament baseball, you wind up in a situation where a winner is necessary. To determine a winner a team will place a runner on 2nd base and the batter will begin batting with two outs. The visiting team tries to get as many runs as possible before the 3rd out. then the same thing occurs with the Home team. Team at the end of this inning becomes the winner. if no winner another inning begins following the same pattern.

is there a way for iScore to handle this situation?

Yes... it is called International Tie Breaker, and we have support built in.

When you reach the extra inning, click Misc->Tie Breaker. It will default to putting the last player that made an out on Second base, but a screen appears where you can change which runners and which bases if you would like. The default that iScore uses is the most common rule.

FTM, I think you have answered this with your reference to "a screen [that] appears where you can change which runners and which bases if you would like" but I would like to be clear in my understanding, as I have not yet had an occasion to use the tie-breaker while scoring with iScore yet.

I have seen tournaments where, instead of the last out of the previous inning starting the next inning on second base, it is the last *two* outs starting the inning on 2B and 3B, presumably to increase the chances that multiple runs will score and decrease the chances that the tie-breaker will go more than one extra inning - time is very short in these tournaments. Are you saying that, after selecting the International Tie-Breaker option, that there is a screen that pops up and allows you to place precisely which players at which bases, at the beginning of each extra inning, in order to accommodate variations on the common (default) rule? I *think* that's what you mean, and if so that is GREAT. I just wanted to be sure, so I know how to do it when the inevitable finally happens.

Yes, that is correct. To see it, you can bring up the tie breaker screen by touch Misc -> Tie Breaker. It will bring up a screen that defaults as we noted above, but lets you select the bases and which runners are on each base if you use a rule different than the most common.
