There's a runner on third and for whatever reason the pitcher steps off and throws that way. Whether a bad throw or bad catch, the ball gets past the third baseman and the runner scores. I tap the runner -> Safe -> Home and the button for pickoff goes away. I decided to credit the runner with a stolen base but is that the right thing to do? Alternatively I could score it an E1 or E5 but since it was a failed pickoff attempt I'd really like for the record to reflect that.
Interestingly, I just went into the play-by-play the pickoff attempt button is available. Given that, I could go back now and correct it but if the button isn't there during live scoring it's probably for a good reason.
Failed 1-5 pickoff gives up a run. How would you score it?

Would probably score it with a Pickoff Attempt first, then touch the runner again and score the runner advancing to home on E1 or E5 (depending on who caused the error). You could add a note saying the error occurred on the pickoff attempt.

Ah. So deal with the pickoff attempt first then with the aftermath as a separate issue. I haven't tried yet but I'm guessing I won't be able to insert the attempt into the pitch-by-pitch after the fact? It's not a game changer but I can see where that would wreck your data structures under the covers...

That is correct, would not be able to insert the attempt for now. You can go add a note to the play after the fact however.
