If I have a team saved, and I used the quick roster, if I use that team again and edit the player names, does it properly track the player by name or number?

Yes, it will track them... just go to the starting lineup and be sure to use "Copy Lineup to Roster" to copy your changes back to the Team Roster so the next time you start a new game with that team, it will start with the Names / Numbers you have assigned.

maybe i didn't ask the question correctly. If I had a roster saved for a team where I used the quick roster and had the players names as player A B C... if I use this roster for a new game, but I change the lineup to show a different batting order and then rename the players from Player C F A B etc to A B C D E F, will I get previous spray charts from the player name or player number?

It is neither player name or player number. We keep an internal identifier for each player. When you re-use the same player, you can rename the player or change their number to whatever you want, and the statistics / hit information stays with the player. You could name them all "Player A" with a Jersey number of "5", and they would each still maintain their correct statistics. It would probably be confusing to you as the scorekeeper keeping track of who is who, but iScore keeps the internal identifiers straight.
