Updating two devices
Updating two devices
I have input all my teams for the league into my IPAD. I have also imported them into my IPHONE from the Data Sharing website. Now if I play a game on the Ipad or Iphone, and change players names, add players, delete, etc. as the games are played, what is the easiest way to keep both in sync ?

Re: Updating two devices
Once data for a player has been copied with data sharing, the updates will not be transferred again because people can maintain their own names on different devices, and we would not want to overwrite the changes that were made.
If you want to re-transfer the data, you would need to delete it on the second device, and you would then be able to data share again.

Re: Updating two devices
For new additions to a team, if you just data share to bring in the new game that has the additional players, it will pull in the new players.
For edits to players, you would actually be better off making the same changes on the second device as well.
If edits had to be made more than just a player or two, can you help us understand what the use case is? We would not have expected teams to be data shared, then a bunch of changes made (beyond adding new players), then needing to data share again.
Thank you.

Re: Updating two devices
Let's see if this helps:
I am trying to set up the season ahead of time. I have the schedule of 19 games, the team names, the number of players on each team, but no names, except mine.
In order to set up the scheduled games, I added all the teams, and for players, just did Quick Roster for 13 players, all of them hitting. Since I do not have names or numbers yet (each team could be different and wont know until that day when we play the game), I used the team name for First name and numer for Last name. Once game day arrives, I will simply edit each player by adding their correct player number and last name. If I do not enter the last names, I may simply delete all the default numbers assigned and leave it blank.
Is there a more effiecient way to do this ?

Re: Updating two devices
This will work fine for one device, but if you have already used data sharing to transfer to another, it is not going to "synchronize" changes between devices. It is a one way transfer. You should not transfer the games to a second device until the game has actually been scored and that way it will have the correct data.

Re: Updating two devices
Ok so this is helping me too. As I read it what you are saying is that the MAIN device is only a one way transfer of information then the second device scores the game then can transfer back? Very confusing to me because I was going to set up the season tonight with our roster and our games but will not have all the other teams players yet so this is not possible correct?
Re: Updating two devices
If you set up your entire season on one device then data share that season then both devices recognize those games. When you score with one device or the other you can't data share the scored game because both devices have the game, one device scored, one unscored. If FTM set it up differently then we would be over writing games and causing havoc on your 2 databases and the boards.
Just my opinion but I would not set up the entire season. At the field it takes only a minute to start a new game and you have a better possibility of having the other teams roster to input. So when you get home you can data share the scored game to the second device.

Re: Updating two devices
So by the same token, it seems w should also not set up all the teams and Data share in advance? I really neve know which device I will use to score a game until that day. If it is Hot out I cant use the iPad as it shuts down in the middle of the game.
If I have season set up on iPad but then score on iPhone, which will be the device I make changes on, then can't I just delete the game on iPad before data sharing the scored game from iPhone ?
I think you guys might consider setting up a special forum for all these Data Share questions.
