New Game Without Lineup

In many Summer high school games, lineup cards are not exchanged or I do not have access to them. Any suggestions on starting a game without a lineup?
When I start a game without knowing the lineup for the game, but using an established team and adjusting the lineup as batters come up, the score sheet has the adjustments as substitutions - OK, but not preferred.
With the opposing team, not having any information, each batter has to be entered into the lineup as they come to the plate or else the program won't score the game. Additionally, before additional players are entered, the program will rotate the one, two, three, etc. through the lineup until all nine are entered - makes for a lot of difficulty for the first few innings.
