On the fly scoring question.

Post by brentwalker » Sat Aug 01, 2009 6:23 pm

Ok, so I have read hear on this forum that creating a generic "opponent" is helpful when playing tournament ball and you rarely see the opponents lineup until each batter comes to the plate.

I did this today and had a problem I could not seem to resolve.

We were visitors and scored 4 runs in our first at bat. After 3 outs it was the home teams time at bat. They scored one run after 5 batters and 3 outs with #6 batter to be the first batter during their half of the next inning.

All was going well until I reached the bottom of their lineup. I had originally only added 9 players on the lineup card. The next batter should have been their #10th batter. So I went to the lineup entry screen and added two more batters after finding out that they would be batting 11. I went back to the "play" button and iScore took me again to the first batter in the lineup as though no batters had been entered. I could find no way of correcting iScore so that the #10 batter would be the batter at the plate, not the lead off batter. I dinked around with this for at least two more batters and gave up and put the iphone back in my pocket.

Any ideas as to how to fix this next time?

For the next time, I have added two more batters to the lineup thinking that I could delete a batter from the lineup if he is actually not going to play. Maybe that won't work but we'll see.

my suggestion...

1) if you caught the problem in the moment and could do a quick undo of last play for batter 9, that would be my approach.. if you then add the extra two players while batter 9 is still up and before #10 or 11 comes up, then finish the play for batter 9, iscore should no longer jump to batter #1 and all be fine

2) as a matter of habit on unknown teams i do try and over estimate the batters they have for just this reason, and because i know it is easier to deleate or skip a batter if you over count upfront than to have to do undo as i suggest above and add on the fly. (FYI -on scoring main screen under misc, is an option to skip a batter with no penalty, you can do that for the extra at the end and then go back and deleate them durring an inning break )

3) lastly, all will be better in V2.0 .. the generic opponent team looks to be much easier in upcoming version v2.0 - using quick team feature./

That is what I did for the very next game. I learn quick but was making sure there wasn't an easier solution. Thanks for the quick reply. Off to another tournament game. So far have enjoyed the app
