i registered my iphone. what does this do for me?

It allows you to log in to the Admin Website using your email instead of having to remember your customer ID. If you have multiple devices, you can link them to your email to transfer add ons between devices from the Admin Website. There will be more uses for the registered email in future updates as well.

What does registering a device mean? How do I do that?

currently, most useful for transferring purchased addons to other devices that you have iscore on (that is, you have to purchase the app for every device, but only have to purchase the addons once and can apply them to multiple apps).
