Ground out or sacrifice?

Post by fmcfish » Fri Apr 19, 2013 9:02 pm

how is this scored? One out, runner on third, infield playing back. Batter hits an outside pitch to the second baseman. Batter thrown out at first 4-3. Runner scores from third.
Does the batter get a sacrifice or is it merely a ground out?
Does the batter get an RBi?

thanks

It is just a ground out. Yes, batter gets an RBI. Mark runner as Advanced by Batter.

Thanks. That's what I thought and that is how I originally scored it.

sacrifices are only technically for fly balls to outfield that score a run and bunts that advance a runner.

As I understand to rule, if the scorer feels the batter's primary goal was to attempt to get on base, and not solely to advance the runner, it is not scored as a sac.

For bunts, yes. Sac flys are given without regard to intent.
