My daughter pitched a game this week and the defense did not show up.
After multiple errors, the final score was 0-13.
There were 2 home runs hit in the game, but she only has one earned run.
Can someone explain how this could be?
I would assume that no matter the errors the pitcher would be charged for the batter scoring.

I'm not positive on this, nor am I an official scorer, but I think there can be a couple of instances where a home run is not earned. If the home run came after an error occurs which would have been the 3rd out, then that possibly could be an unearned run. Or, if the batter, before he hits the home run, hits a foul popup for example, that the fielder drops, perhaps the home run after that would be unearned.

I'm sure others can clarify more, but that's my educated guess.

As soon as a third out should have occurred, no runs are earned from that point forward. If batter 1 and 2 strike out, and batter 3 reaches on error, the next 10 batters can all hit home runs and it would still be 0 earned runs.
