in iScore batting stats...
"ON BASE" is correctly defined to match MLB definition [OBP = { (Hits, Walks, BB) / (AB +SF + BB + HBP) } ]
Food for thought....
For little league, consider adding a more general total Times on Base measurement. As this a result of actions and not an Official MLB stat, i am not sure if there is a 'correct' name for it, (perhaps sabermetrics experts have one). If not a name for it, perhaps use TOB (total times on base) or TRB (times reached base) or simply RB (Reached Base). its calculation would include any way the batter reached base, the normal On Base means (Hit, BB or HBP) plus would include Reach on Fielders Choice, Reach on Error, (including, reach on sac bunt w error or sac fly w error ), Reach on Drop 3 Strike (by PB or WP), Reach On Catcher obstruction) . baseball folks know why On Base excludes those items, but it is an interesting way to help educate parents and kids on the difference between reaching base physically and OBP technically..
Again, food for thought.. .
thanks
