Scoring Pickoff Attempts

Post by caged1 » Wed Apr 21, 2010 1:41 pm

Maybe it’s only me but I’ve always found scoring each pickoff attempt as kind of lengthy considering the speed of the play only takes a second or two. I often risk the chance that I will miss the next pitch scoring each PK attempt so I often don’t bother. I’m wondering if it would be possible to add a swipe to the runner like the Out button has, that would allow you to select a quick PK attempt 1-3 or PK attempt 2-5, etc. Could even add a quick Stolen Base or Caught Stealing 2-6 choice if there was enough room. That may be too many variables to make it worthwhile but it’s just a thought.

I like the swipe shortcut idea. If the swipe would not work on the runner maybe swipe the pitcher for PKA or swipe the catcher for CS shortcut.

We will see if we can come up with any clean ways to make pickoff attempts easier to record. As you noted, we can't just assume the pitcher is the one doing the pickoff attempt, so it is still going to take some clicking.

I like danmcc’s idea about making it a swipe for the pitcher or catcher. They are the ones who get credited with the PKA anyway and that way it would narrow the variables. Swiping the pitcher could give a quick choice of 1-3, 1-4, etc. While the catcher would be 2-3, 2-6, etc. Anything out of the ordinary, like a rundown or if the runner was out, could be recorded the standard way.
Again, just throwing it out there. I have not seen anyone else mention it, so it probably shouldn’t be too high of a priority, if at all.
