NSA Fastpitch Softball Twin Rule
NSA Has a Twin Rule, that is similar to ASA/HS DP-Flex rule. I don't see the option to use a Twin in iScore. Can this be added?
----------------
Interesting NSA Rule, kinda like a DP/Flex, but better I think.
Any two players may be designated as “TWIN PLAYERS”. The use
of TWIN PLAYERS must be made known at the pre
-
game meeting
and written on the line
-
up card. Both names must be written on one
(1) line on the line
-
up card, or write the names of the TWIN
PL
AYERS on two lines with the word TWIN PLAYERS before their
names.
b)
The TWIN PLAYERS are interchangeable. The TWIN PLAYERS
occupy one (1) slot in the batting order and are locked to that slot for
the duration of the game. One TWIN can replace the oth
er on offense
(either as a batter or runner) at any time and as often as desired
without the action being considered a substitution.
99
c)
Any 9 players in the line
-
up can play defense at any time. The TWIN
PLAYERS may play defense at the same time.
d)
There is no requirement that a TWIN PLAYER play offense or
defense at any time during the game
----------------------------------------------/-
Thanks,
Cliff

Re: NSA Fastpitch Softball Twin Rule
You can score games that use the Twin Rule in iScore. There is no need to denote anyone as a "twin player" as iScore allows free substitutions (which matches the essence of what the twin rule is saying). You can sub in the player playing offense or defense in the "twin" spot any time you like just by making the offensive or defensive substitution.

While, you are correct that substitutions are allowed at any time during the game, it would be nice to have a reminder on screen about the twin. I'm reminded about the DP/Flex players and can assign them prior to the game.
Honestly, I would like to have better reminders about substitutions. I would also like iscore to be more aware of the sanctions rules, especially as they relate to subs and re-entries.

In iScore's defense, when one keeps score on paper one has to know the substitution rules separately. I just don't see adding that level of complexity to an ap that is trying to be useful to various age levels, ability levels and rules for both baseball and softball is needed at this point. I have actually found the way iscore handles substitutions cleaner when looking at the scorecard and play by play than the ap my daughter's college softball team is using. The DP/flex is fairly common in softball including the NCAA. I suppose if the NCAA adopts the "twin rule" you may have an issue worth accommodating then. iScore currently allows you to work around the "twin rule" it just requires a little more attention. I would think someone keeping score on paper with the "twin rule" would also have to be on their toes a little more in terms of keeping track of who batted when and what position they were playing when also.

I don't disagree with anything you have said here. However, the person keeping score in a paper book has notes in front of them showing when and how a player was in the lineup. Therefore, I would assume they know the rules about re-entries and such. However, when I make a free substitution using iscore, I have not seen anywhere that a person may or may not have ever been in the lineup before. To me, this is really an area that iscore could be more useful and helpful by just a reminder that player A has already been in the game and this is a reentry.ixamnis wrote:In iScore's defense, when one keeps score on paper one has to know the substitution rules separately. I seem to have gotten a bit off track, but it all relates a bit.

I appreciate your concerns and I don't want to belabor this, but I'm using iScore on an android phone, I can go to "Tools" and pull up either the home team or visitor's scorecard and look fairly quickly to see who has batted where and what position they have played.

Maybe I'm just missing it, but I don't see that option on my iPad.ixamnis wrote:I appreciate your concerns and I don't want to belabor this, but I'm using iScore on an android phone, I can go to "Tools" and pull up either the home team or visitor's scorecard and look fairly quickly to see who has batted where and what position they have played.

On the iPad, just tap the arrow that is on the right hand side of the main scoring screen to see the "scorebook". You can leave it open at all times if you want on an iPad - even while scoring - and it will update in real time as you go. If you double tap it, it will toggle between the home and visitor team.

Thank You. I had never noticed the substitutions being shown in that box before (scorebook). I do keep that docked at all times so I can see last out and last batted out for courtesy runners (when we can use them).FTMSupport wrote:On the iPad, just tap the arrow that is on the right hand side of the main scoring screen to see the "scorebook". The other piece of info I had been trying to figure out how to do was to flip the book and see the other half of the inning or other team details after the third out. Now I know to just double click the screen and it will flip to the other team.
And one final note, in the bottom right of the screen, there is a button that will open the scorebook fullscreen.
I've been using iscore for more than a year now and learned a lot from this topic.
