Two base walks

Post by GregAlso » Sun Apr 25, 2010 7:26 pm

In coed slowpitch softball guys can receive two bases on a walk if no strike is thrown. I have been just giving a walk and advancing the runners manually. Problem is I can't get the RBIs to all go to the hitter, especially with two on or bases loaded. Can you add that option into iscore. Also a way to start each batter with a 1-1 count that isn't counted into the pitchers stats would be good too.

We will likely be adding the ability to start with a 1-1 count soon --- that comes up a lot for all slow pitch softball leagues. The idea of a two-base walk if no strike is thrown is a new one to us (either you or one other person mentioned it last week, but we had not heard of this prior to that). We will have to think about how we might be able to incorporate the scoring of RBIs in this siutation in a future release.

Just out of curiosity, how have you been advancing the runners? I would think that the advanced by batter would give them credit wouldn't it?

Advance by Batter only gives an RBI if it is done as part of the same play sequence. A walk does not ask what happened to the runners --- it automatically forces each runner over as appropriate. You would get 1 RBI in a bases loaded situation, but advancing a second runner over would not be credited as an RBI on a walk.

I have been advancing the runners and loosing the RBI. It sort of works but leaves much to be desired. I think the two base walk is pretty standard for coed leagues. It prevents or punishes a team for pitching around guys to get girls out. I am excited about the addition of the 1-1 count. Any news on the addition of an A/B lineup system (ie guys girls?) The scorecard really doesn't matter and could be disabled in that option, the option itself would be amazing!

The A/B lineups are not very high on the priority list. If more people start requesting it, it could move up the list, but we are really trying to focus on things that are helpful to the most users right now, and as those items are completed, we can start working on some of the narrower focus items.

I also need the 1-1 starting count.

Any news and updates on that being added?

Our softball games start tomorrow...!

Thanks

Not yet at the top of the list, but getting closer. We will post in the forum what functionality is included each time we have a new release.

Do you have any suggestions on how to score this before the feature comes out in the app?

Either way that I try to do this, the pitcher's pitch count will be incorrect.

There is not a good way to keep pitch counts in real time when you must start with a 1-1 count.

One way you could do it would be to have a dummy player, and sub that player in as pitcher at the start of each at bat, enter a ball and a strike, then sub the real pitcher back. This will be very tedious, but would keep the pitch count correct.

Another way to do it would be to immediately tap ball, strike when a batter comes up, and know you have to subtract off 2*(batters faced) to get the actual pitch count. The statistics page shows batters faced as BF for each pitcher.

If you don't care about pitch counts (is there a reason you would in softball?), you could just ignore the fact you are starting with a 1-1 count, and use the Walk/Strikeout when 3 balls or 2 strikes are reached.
