Pitcher Substitutions
Pitcher Substitutions
I am having problems substituting pitchers. I set up my roster and mark all player positions. I then define a new game, for example, Tampa Bay Rays vs. Kansas City Royals. I go to the lineups for each team and mark each man in the lineup who is playing as Batting Yes. I then drag them into the correct batting order and start the game. When it comes time to substitute a pitcher, all of my roster except for the nine batters have lost their positions, including the pitchers. Their positions are marked as OUT. The selection of possible pitcher replacements starts at some random point in the team roster. Does anyone know what's going on here. I'm using version 1.65.08 running on an iPod Touch with 32GB of memory. Thanks in advance.

Re: Pitcher Substitutions
Hi Nick.
That is actually how iScore is intended to work. When you start the game, all players that are not starting the game have their positions set to OUT. When it is time to substitute a pitcher, all players that are not batting are available to be the new pitcher, and they should be listed in "roster order". One of the reasons for this is that in youth leagues, many players play multiple positions.
Hope this helps.

Re: Pitcher Substitutions
So let me see if I have this right. When I set up my team roster, I should set everyone's position to OUT. Then when I do my lineup, I should select each player from the roster, set them to BATTING, and then set their field position. Then I can select my pitcher. Is that right?

Nick,
This is one way to do it, but a little bit of info that can help you when setting up the game roster is that if your team often uses the same starting batting order (and play the same positions), you can set that up in the Team Manager. Then when you create the lineup for a game, it will take less work to make adjustments.

Re: Pitcher Substitutions
As bsweetser says, the Roster from Team Manager will be the default for your lineup. So if you set that to the most likely scenario - you can have the fielding positions for everyone and Batting=YES for the players that will most likely be in the batting lineup - then setting your lineup just becomes a matter of rearranging a few batting positions if needed.
When you click Play, iScore removes repeated fielding positions automatically.

Re: Pitcher Substitutions
Thanks to all for your help. I'm still making the adjustment from pad and paper to electronic gizmos. I scored the Tampa Bay vs Chicago game last night with narry a problem. I have to go back and watch the second video again because I'm still not clear on pinch runners and making substitution and fielding position switches (e.g. pinch runner comes in for 9; 9 switches to 8; pinch runner goes to 6 and 6 goes to 9) Practice, practice, practice. I'm loving this app!!
