Some bugs v 5.004 (rain delay and sounds on) (responded to)

Post by Space » Thu Feb 09, 2017 6:25 pm

I've noticed a few bugs on iPad Mini 2 with v5.004...

If I select Misc -> Rain Delay, I see "Game is Delayed" in the "Pitch by Pitch" section, however if I look at the game on iscorecentral.com it just has a blank entry in the "Pitch by Pitch" with no indication of a delay.

If I tap on an entry in the "Pitch by Pitch", for instance a base hit, and then press "Edit" next to the "Base hit" entry it gives me a screen with a bunch of buttons, however some of those buttons are written on top of one another so you can't read them or select them (You can not read the Homerun!, "In the Park Homerun" or "Bunt" buttons because there is some other text written over the top of them, I think the text that is covering those buttons is "Single with error", "Double with error" and "Triple with error"). I think the problem here is that it is presenting additional options that it should not be, since it was originally a single, and it is allowing you to change it to "Hit Double" and "Hit Triple", etc. when I don't think that is allowed since the original was a single. If I look on my iPhone, those buttons do not appear and it looks correct.

If you have the "Event Audio" turned on on iscorecentral.com it will announce "Ball", "Strike", etc. however if the events come in too fast, it only announces the last event. For instance, it announces "Ball" and then within 15 seconds a strike and another ball is logged, however iscorecentral.com only announces "Ball", skipping the announcement of the strike. If you are trying to keep track of the game by listening to it, it makes it hard to know what is going on when several pitches/events are not announced.

For the Rain Delay issue, we would suggest adding a comment to the play with information about the delay. This will display in the scorecast. e.g. "Game delayed until rain stops", "Game delayed until tomorrow", etc

For pitch by pitch editing, we are working on a fix for this right now - thank you for bringing it to our attention.

For Event Audio, this is a choice we had to make because there are times that the batch of events will be very large - even a complete game (if someone does iScorecast Synchronize for a game that did not already have iScorecast on for example). This would be a horrible experience for a user..

It does announce what the count is after each ball/strike/foul, so if a pitch is skipped for any reason, you will still hear the correct count.

Thanks for the response.

I still think it is a bug that the Rain Delay issue produces a blank line instead of indicating a rain delay, what is the point of the blank line?. I understand that a note can be used, but it should not be necessary.

Thanks for working on the issue with the overlapping buttons.

I understand about the choice made about batch events, but I think a better trade-off would be to play the audio for all events that occurred within the last minute or so. This way you will still only get a limited set of events (those that happened since your last update or within the last minute, whichever is shorter) but you will not miss an event unless there is an network outage for more than 1 minute (4 missed polls assuming they are 15 seconds apart).
As it is now, I can hear "ball", "ball", "ball", "You're out" due to strikeout and be completely confused because the strikes were not announced.

I am not aware of the announcement of the count like you indicated, I've only heard "out", "strike", "ball" voiced which does not give me an indication of what the true count is. How do I enable the voicing of the count?

Thanks again!

The "count" is announced when using the iScore Central App. It sounds like maybe you are viewing the game in a web browser instead of with the app. The iScore Central app adds some extra commentary to the audio feed including the count and things like announcing the score between innings and complete audio details of the pitch by pitch info.

Yes, I was referring to the web browser version.

I assume the iScore Central app also has the same issue as the web site version (with the batching).

Maybe, if it is simpler (or the events are not time stamped), if there are more than 5 events in a batch, then only play the last 5 from that batch. I would think that it would be rare to enter more than 5 events in a 15 or even 30 second period, so that would allow all events to be announced unless there are network issues. If there are network issues, then when the issue is resolved, it will only announce the last 5 (of possibly many events in that batch).

Anyway, thanks for listening.
