Catcher's Interference doesn't show up on score card
Catcher's Interference doesn't show up on score card
Scored a game tonight and noticed that a catcher's interference does not get noted on the score card. A batter reached on a catcher's interference and I scored it as such. Looking back at the score card for the game, the batter is shown at 1b with no notation on how he got there. It does show up in the play-by-play, though.
Re: Catcher's Interference doesn't show up on score card
I assume the way you scored this was In Play>Safe>Catcher obstruction... correct?
If so, I notice the same thing...
(btw, should the iscore option catcher obstruction technically be called catcher interference? )
I also noticed the Catcher did not get asssigned an error? should he?
MLB 10.12.8.c
(c) When an umpire awards the batter or any runner or runners one or more bases because of interference or obstruction, the official scorer shall charge the fielder who committed the interference or obstruction with one error, no matter how many bases the batter, or runner or runners, may advance

Re: Catcher's Interference doesn't show up on score card
Interestingly, I did not notice that no error was charged to anyone on the play since an error did show up in the line score. Looking back though the offensive and defensive stats, no error was charged to the catcher. And, the batter (who went 1-for-4 as follows: single, reach on the CI, fly out, and ground out) shows up as having 4 plate appearances and 3 at bats. Which is also incorrect.
In the on-line play-by-play, the entry for the batter in question reads:
Ball (intentional), ** Pitch out **, Foul, Catcher Interference,
The "** Pitch out **" notation was added by me after the defense threw a pitch-out on the first pitch, anticipating that the runner would take off from 1b. He did not. The "Catcher Interference" is high-lighted in green, indicating that the batter reached base.
As I said, the line score on the device indicated an error (and still does) but there does not appear to be an error noted anywhere else.

One more note, even though the error shows up in the line score on the iPhone, it does not show up in the line score that is part of the online box score for the game.
Re: Catcher's Interference doesn't show up on score card
you say he should not have 4 PA and 3AB? Why not, What should he have?
He should not get an official at bat when awarded first on CI Just like a walk or a sac bunt.
MLB 10.02
(a) The following records for each batter and runner:
(1) Number of times batted, except that no time at bat shall be charged when a player
(i) hits a sacrifice bunt or sacrifice fly;
(ii) is awarded first base on four called balls;
(iii) is hit by a pitched ball; or
(iv) is awarded first base because of interference or obstruction;

Re: Catcher's Interference doesn't show up on score card
I do believe we have stumbled into a couple bugs.. related to CI.
Will have to let FTM jump in...and resolve / prioritize
recap
* Catcher not getting assigned an error on a catcher interference/obstruction play
* email of game HTML box score, shows an error, but not assigned to anyone
* Online play by play box score does not show error and hence does not show the same thing as email box score.
* Scorecard does not note the CI .(your original point)

Re: Catcher's Interference doesn't show up on score card
Sigh...I was just thinking about the error when I wrote that...not the CI. Too many things going on, I guess. It should be 4 PAs and 3 ABs.OhioTex wrote:you say he should not have 4 PA and 3AB? Why not, What should he have?

Re: Catcher's Interference doesn't show up on score card
We have modified the scorecard to show "CI" for the next release.
We are showing the team error, but are not currently assigning the catchers interference (aka catchers obstruction - they are the same thing depending on whether you look in MLB or NFHS rules) to the catcher as an error. We will fix this for the next release as well. The online box score reflects the totals of individual errors, so this will automatically be corrected as well.
The number of At Bats is working correctly - it is treated like a walk for this type of calculation.
