Handling multiple seasons of team rosters

Post by brentwalker » Thu Mar 10, 2011 9:36 pm

What is the best way to or the recommended way to handle team rosters from different seasons, specifically talking about HS Baseball?

Last Years Seniors are no longer on the team and there is a possible new crop of players that need to be added.

When managing teams from my.iscorecentral, I seem to get a very long list of players.

Or do I just create a new team (i.e. [year]NewTeam). Done this way I loose stats from previous years.

Just curious how everyone is doing this or what FTM recommends.

We would generally recommend a new team each year so that you don't wind up with a Roster that is growing forever to account for all the old players. There are people that have had success both ways however. We will be interested to hear what others have to say as well.

Brent.. I know you are also a long time user.. My two cents. I have tried both ways and landed on new teams each year.. Just seems to work better. Email my self end of team life stats amd retain in excel. ( do not deleate any teasm, games or players on device),The only real down side was team web site. Have to cancel old and but a new one. But in the end, where I landed.

Actually, I was hoping to utilize the league feature as a way to manage the players on a team. It current doesn't work that way, not sure why since leagues help you in other filtering areas. Right now when you add a league players are not automatically added to that league. I think it would be nice if it did although I've not throughout thru the impact of doing this. Anyway if it did then I could go into each team and de-select the graduated seniors and then my roster would then only show players for the active leagues and all previous stats would still be available. Shouldn't my roster be associated with the leagues that are active?

FTM, would this be possible solution? Or something similar?

Teams, Stats and games are filtered this way and seems that rosters should be as well, IMHO.

Interesting idea... I know leagues are a common , support call, but that would be consistent implementation of leagues. Currently assigning leagues to players is not as ' critical' as teams and games, this would make it very key.. Player merge still exists if you forget ..

I had thought about an active and inactive flag on players in team manager roster, only active players pulled into a starting game line up, or posted to web site roster..

as another alternative...

This kind of request is becoming more common, and we are thinking about ways to handle teams that change a little from year to year, but are essentially the same team. Thank you for the suggestions.
