Manual Player Creation vs Roster Upload

Post by bepeacock » Wed Jun 04, 2014 1:34 pm

So I go to many AA minor league games and pay for the Roster IAP in this app each year. Well worth it. But I find minor league to be pretty sketchy on its accuracy. Not a complaint. I know the app is just pulling from the available data. So I find myself manually entering quite a few players, especially pitchers, in the middle of games. My concern is, once the data is catches up with the rapid transactions that happen in the minors day to day, and I update the roster info in the app, will there now be two versions of the same player? Mine manual one and the one pulled in when the data was updated?

If so, how do I possibly keep track of that in order to merge them? Is that just something I'm going to manually have to do regularly in a season?

It's messing with my OCD that I don't know for sure if I'm creating duplicates because of this situation and just wondering what the best solution is for this.

Yes, it would require merging if/when this happens. If you turn on the ALL league in League Manager, and go to Player Manager, you can look for duplicates there and use the Merge option. It may become tedious as the list gets longer, but we can't think of a better way to handle it.

Just be sure to do the Discover Team before each game you score to be sure you have the latest data from the MiLB feeds. It should be pretty accurate as MLB teams rely on it as well.

Oh I have teams and rosters synced before going to the game. If this app is pulling from MLB for minor lague rosters, I don't know why I'm having to enter about half the team each game I go to. I just figured it was the number and timing of transactions. I usually keep Safari open with both teams' website rosters ready. If that is up-to-date (and it is), wonder why the data being pulled in to the app isn't.

The data for the Minor League rosters comes straight from milb.com. You are saying that you are doing a "Discover Team" from MiLB, and the players coming in do not match what is on milb.com for that team? If you can give us an example of that, we would love to take a look. Maybe you can email the example to support@iscoresports.com when it is happening.

So my workflow at the start of the season and games is:

-Add a League (created "AA Minor League 2014")
-I have that one, American League 2014, National League 2014, and Major League 2014 turned on.
-I go to Team Manager > Discover Teams > MiLB > select the teams in our AA Texas League and import them.
-Before game time, I go to AddOns and get New Data. It then shows Current.
-Go to the game, start entering rosters. Some players are there; usually I have to Add New Player for half or less of the Line Up. I keep the teams' website pulled up (such as http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.js ... e&sid=t574" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) so I can quickly add players to the roster, then the line up when substitutions are made.

It's the roster on the link above and the roster on the app that don't match. If anything I've done is preventing the true and accurate update of information, by all means correct me! I still think it is worth the IAP to have a good portion of the rosters already imported. Like I said, I just always attributed to a delay in the online info available for the app to import.

The Options -> Add Ons -> Get New Data only updates the MLB rosters. To get MiLB updates, you need to use the Discover option again. Each time you Discover the MiLB team, it will update the roster with what is currently on the MiLB.com site.

Well there you go! Thank you so much! So is MiLB discovery part of the $20 add on or did I pay for that and didn't necessarily need to (though happy to support you guys).

I'll do this next game and let y'all know the results!

It is part of the add on. You just have to use the Discover option or update the roster. People without the add on do not see MiLB as one of the choices when doing Discover.
