iScore Baseball v1.65.08 submitted to App store yesterday

Post by FTMSupport » Wed May 20, 2009 11:10 am

This is a patch release, not the full 1.70 release we are working on.

It was an unplanned release to address a few issues people had (mostly with the Fielder's Choice on a runner). We decided enough people were effected that it warranted a release. We threw in a few new features as well:
  • Fixed issue where Fielder's Choice on a runner causes scorecard to crash. Fielder's Choice is technically a play that should only be scored on a batter (and works fine when used that way). But we allowed Fielder's Choice to be assigned to Runners prior to this patch which caused the issue. We made it so it will no longer crash for anyone that scored a play that way, but also removed the option of Fielder's Choice for runners. (If you have this issue, and can not wait for version 1.65 release to view your scorecard, we can update your database if you export your database and email us your customer ID.)
  • Fixed an issue similar to the one above where a Double Play is entered where the batter is not involved as one of the outs. This is actually a legitimate way to score a play, but could cause a crash when viewing stats.
  • Scorecard fixes - if a user marked a runner as safe on a base they were already on, it was replacing how they got there. Changed unassisted putout to "U3" instead of "3U" (3 being whatever position touched the ball), changed "SB" to "SH" for a sacrifice bunt where batter is safe, added "SAC" to scorecard when batter is out on a sacrifice bunt (make it clear what took place), fixed issue where scorecard would sometimes show player's first appearance in a game as being in the first inning even if they came in the game later.
  • Fixed issue in Game Manager where in some situations, the "list view" of games would not show the correct final score (or even that the game was finished with the "F" indicator). When you view the game details, it showed the correct results, and all stats would be correct, but the list sometimes would not.
  • Added "ERG" - Earned Runs per Game as a pitching stat. For people that play 9 inning games, this is the same as ERA, but we had many requests for an "ERA-like" number for different numbers of innings for shorter games. This stat will use the # of innings you entered for a game to determine the ERG for a pitcher.
  • Runner "Hit by Ball" now works
  • Added the ability to edit the start/end time for games from Game Manager. This allows entering of games after they have been played, and still getting the sort order correct.
  • And last but certainly not least, a great new feature that was intended for 1.70, but is being included early, a full "Pitch by Pitch game summary" can be viewed from within game manager. A screenshot of this is shown below. It is going to be the basis for editing games in the upcoming 1.70 release, but it has enough use just for reviewing games that we decided to introduce it now even without the editing capability. You can see what took place on each pitch of the game, including the location of the pitch for people that track it, so you can see the ball location of key hits, key plays, etc. This can be very helpful for reviewing old games as reading the details of the game jogs the memory in ways that viewing the scorebook does not. As noted, in version 1.70, you will be able to click a play in this view and make some basic changes to correct errors that may have been made while doing your scorekeeping.

Man, you guys really are working overtime!
The pitch by pitch looks incredibly useful and fun. One thing to consider: it could be a little confusing not knowing who is batting until a play is recorded. From what I can see in the screenshot (gorgeous, by the way) after a play is recorded (Dakota grounds out), there is no indication of who is batting when the "Ball 1" is recorded next, or "Strike 1" after that, until the ground out. On really long at bats this could cause confusion.

Also, it can be confusing that the Ball and strike count on the batter seems to reset to 0-0 when the ground out is recorded, it should stay how it was (in this case 1-1). I know this feature was intended for 1.70, so I believe we can expect changes when the next release rolls out....

All said, this application continue to excel and get better each release, interim or not!

All of the things you mentioned have been identified for the play by play... we just thought we'd throw it in early since we were doing the 1.65 release. Another thing you don't see right now in the play by play is who is pitching... we are adding that for 1.70.

Thanks for the feedback.

To add on to jdonato's feedback, I agree it looks great. Along with adding names of the batters, perhaps grouping at bats and only adding in the score divider when something of more significance happens (batter reaches, stolen base, out, etc.). If pitch location is not being recorded, this will save a lot of room on the screen.

I can't wait for the update. Hopefully Apple doesn't come up with any ridiculous reasons to delay this time.

What you are talking about with grouping is what we call Play by Play and will be an addition screen in a future version. The reason we do not group in Pitch By Pitch is that this is the closest view on how the data is actually stored in the system that we can make. It will therefore allow us to make corrections in the play editor at the lowest level possible. Basically what you are seeing here is every step in the UNDO/REDO sequence converted into human readable format and laid one by one. This is also the way that data gets transmitted in Gamecast so you can see that we are getting close with that feature too.

Ok. The screen shot says "Play by Play," so that is the way I was looking at it.
