custom stats

Post by ap16 » Sun Feb 14, 2010 12:14 am

im a coach where we use a few other stats to monitor a players progress thru a season. we also use quality AB's, 2 strike hits, 2 out rbi's, etc. an option to checkmark these if they happen during an at bat would be great.

We have enough information to include stats for 2 strike hits and 2 out RBI, but how would you define a quality at bat? If there is a way to quantify that, we could potentially include that as well.

We get requests for new stats, requests to remove stats, etc all the time. At some point we will have a "super list" of stats and will allow users to decide which ones they want to see in tehir output. It is all part of the prioritization process, so if you have more suggestions, please keep them coming.

Thank you.

Six or more pitches in their first at bat of the game.

Advancing a runner with a productive out like a ground ball to the right side with a man on second or a fly ball to right that advances him to third. Ground ball in the infield with infield back and man on third. Any at bat that drives in a run could be used for that matter. A successful sacrifice bunt. Any 8 or more pitch at bat.

Good start??? :-)

How about a) advanced a runner or b) 6 or more pitches in first at bat or 8 or more in any at bat? That might get most of situations right there?

My coach just asked about this and defined "quality at bat" as
- any plate appearance in which the batter has a hard hit ball, or
- sees 6 or more pitches, or
- sees 3 pitches after 2 strikes, or
- gets a 2 out RBI, or
- executes a sac bunt or sac fly

Is there a reference you can point us to that has the definition? We just want to be sure we are using a well defined source for any stats that are added and not just one person's idea for what it should be. Thank you.

One possible definition is:

■has a hard-hit ball
■sees 6 or more pitches
■sees 3 pitches after 2 strikes
■gets a 2-out RBI
■executes a sacrifice bunt or sacrifice fly

As a little league coach, we LOVE this stat. It helps our kids realize that a good at-bat doesn't always come from a base hit. We would love to see this employed in iScore.

The stats in the other software are part of their upgrade package, not part of the free app. However, I also have been asked by several coaches about tracking quality at bats and would love to see it added to Iscores many features.
