Tracking and reporting players time at various positions
Tracking and reporting players time at various positions
I want to be able to identify how many innings a player played at a specific position, (in a game and cummulatively throughout the season. How do i do this. Also, I'm having trouble interpreting the output in the "POS" and"INN" columns on the scorecard. I know it indicates a player started at position 8 in the 1st inning, but i have an output with a player starting inning 1 on the bench and then that same player inning 1 at position 4 when i made NO substituion in the first inning.

Re: Tracking and reporting players time at various positions
In the case of a player starting on the bench, then showing at position 4, it generally means Play! was pressed before the positions were assigned to the players. To fix this, you can edit the game by going to Game Manager, select the game with the issue, go to Pitch by Pitch, and click the first event listed. From there, you can edit the starting lineup for the game. For initial positions, you should edit the starting lineup and set the positions as opposed to clicking positions and assigning them. Clicking positions and assigning are treated as substitutions. If you do the steps above, it will make the player start at that position immediately in the first inning as opposed to starting on the bench then coming in.
The POS and INN columns are just as you say... the INN is the inning the player started playing the position, and the POS is the position the player played. The positions use standard numbering (1=Pitcher, 2=Catcher, 3=1B, etc...) as you would see on any scorecard. If a player comes into a position, you can assume they played that position until somebody else comes in in a later inning at the same position.
We will actually be creating a new output format at some point in the future that is a grid of players down the left, and innings along the top, and it will show which positions the players played by inning. This is asked for a lot in youth baseball, and we think this format will be unique and give insight to people trying to track that type of thing.

like the below output idea for little league,
are there any plans or ability to make a similar grid available for starting line up input too - would be great for little league...

Yes, we have had requests for pre-entering the planned positions for the game... that would fall into this general idea as well, though the two features may or may not be released at the same time.
