Sluggish scoring with ios7.1 and iscore v4.41
Sluggish scoring with ios7.1 and iscore v4.41
I am using a "new ipad" (I believe its the 2nd or 3rd generation but they called it "the new ipad") with version ios7.1 and iscore version 4.41 and the scoring is very sluggish. I have tried the standard items of soft reset of the ipad, exporting the database and "Cleaning up" via the web and reimporting but the performance is still slow. Any thought on what else to try?

The full reset (press and hold power button and home button on the device until the apple logo appears and the device resets) is the only thing we know that can clear sluggishness. You should also make sure you close out of iScore completely when doing this to make sure it is out of memory. You do this by double tapping the home button, then "flicking" iScore down when it shows all your running apps. You can try closing any other running apps as well.
The iScore code has not changed in this regard, so the sluggishness is coming from the OS, not from the app. The size of Apple's OS has been growing from release to release, and some of the older iPads are just not capable of running the newer versions at an optimal speed. That is why they don't even allow the iPad 1 to upgrade to iOS 7 at all.

Just for the record, I have a previous post saying the same thing as photojon. Like him, I did a reset. There was some improvement, but it seems to me that my system (same as photon, new iPad with ver. 4.41) is still slower than my old iPad with a previous ver. of iScore. I will reset again, making sure to close all running programs first. But I don't follow the logic of the Support statement...."The size of Apple's OS....etc" .....photojon and I are running new, supposedly more capable iPads. ????

The logic is that the application itself has not changed in the logic of processing user input, and yet there is better performance on older versions of the OS. It would not be the first time Apple has had bugs with their major upgrades. In fact, there were major issues with performance of the OS with every Major update Apple has made. When iOS 4.0 first came out, there were serious memory leaks in their image processing. With iOS6, there were serious problems with the way it handled UISegmentedControls being rebuilt. It would not be surprising if iOS7 is still working through issues as well.
When searching Google, you will find article after article about the slow performance of iOS7. Here is an example where it talks about laggy performance (nothing to do with iScore) on iOS7:

This post happens to say that Apple is supposed to be addressing those issues with 7.1, but apparently they have not if you are still having performance issues.
Here is a link where someone gives some tips on how to improve performance of iOS7:

If you do a google search on "ios7 slow" or "ios7 performance", you will see it is quite a widespread issue, and all we can do is hope Apple will address it in future updates.
If you have a very specific sequence of steps in iScore that is going slow consistently, we can try and reproduce that with tools on our end where we can measure performance of specific parts of code to find exactly what is going slow, but our experience has been that resetting the device will typically clear up any slowness.
