How will the game/roster sharing between devices work?

Post by don.english » Fri Apr 09, 2010 7:22 am

Can you give us any insight into how the new game and roster sharing between devices will work in the upcoming release? Maybe go through a scenario.

I am now sharing my data with my wife, the coach, and another dad. I am keeping the stats and sharing them by submitting a request to support today.

If you share a game, do the rosters automatically go as well? What if the roster on my phone doesn't match the other device I am sharing with? How will each players stats react?

Just curious and looking forward to another create capability of iScore!

We have a new "Data Sharing" option that works two ways. You can either connect to another person's database online (if you know the device ID / password), or you can use Bluetooth to connect to another person's device. When you do that, it will list all Games and/or Teams that are on the other device, but not yours. You can then select a Game or Team to bring in to your device.

If you select a Game, it will bring in both the game and the teams involved. If you bring in a team, just that team will be imported.

There is a process that allows you to say whether the Players / Teams involved are "New", or you can "Map" them to existing teams / players on your device. When you say a team is mapping to an existing team, it does a good job of automatically mapping the players for that team as well.

For situations where you have done a "mapping" for any players/teams, it will always be remembered, so you would never have to do that mapping again when sharing with that remote device.

Will there be a "mass transfer" option? For example, when my iPad (finally) arrives, I will want to load everything I have on the phone currently into the iPad. From then on, I will send individual games back and forth (I rarely have roster changes) depending on which device they were scored on.

We can do the complete database transfer for you (have done it for many people already, and is documented several times in the forum). The data sharing is more about individual games after an initial mass transfer.

Thanks, I just thought you were trying to get out of having to do that. When the iPad arrives, I'll have you guys do the first transfer.
