iScoreCast stats act...strange?

Post by Bryan D Shepherd » Fri Apr 16, 2010 2:12 pm

Occasionally during a game that I am working, I will be up in the pressbox with my iPod Touch and a monitor so that I can monitor the iCast for irregularites. Well, sometimes the hits will go haywire and I'll have to go into admin, delete the game cast, then re-sync it from my iPod to get the stats correct. Minor issue, but troublesome during a live game. Anything I am not doing correctly on my end can be fixed, if I know about it. Thanks!

You can re-synch without deleting, so that will save you a step.

If you ever get this to happen where you can leave the game in the state of being "haywire", we can take a look at the servers to see what has happened. You can email us your customer ID directly to support@fasterthanmonkeys.com and let us know which game is having the issue.

The only time we have heard of people having troubles with iScorecast is if they have a weak internet connection where an event may not be sent to the iScore servers. When that happens, the full game state is sent up with any event, so you should still see the correct information when the next event is sent up, but it may skip a pitch for example if your internet connection was lost.

I actually tried that, and it just added the hits to the already odd total.

Right now, I'm watching a baseball game on espn360.com and the iscorecast says 5 hits for south carolina, but my ipod says 4. I have a screenshot from my ipod and a PDF print (my computer hates doing Print Screen screenshots because I have a dual monitor set-up) of the iScoreCast that are at the exact same moment in the ballgame. If you would like me to e-mail them to you, please feel free to ask.

Same issue arose again tonight while watching So. Carolina vs. Alabama. How does the iscore livecast get the data from the server? Does it see a hit and add it to a local total or is it displaying everything that is on the server without storing anything? I think that it's the former because I deleted the game and resynced it, then updated the page and it added the hits to the total, but when I reloaded the whole page (not just using the update button on the website), it was correct.

The iScorecast keeps local totals. If it ever gets out of sync for any reason, just reload the page and things should update correctly.
