Substitution problem

Post by atf » Thu Apr 29, 2010 6:51 pm

I scored a game today that was ended due to the 10 run rule. In the top of fith I made 3 substitutions which properly show up in the play-by-play log. They do not show up in the scorecard. We did not need to bat at the bottom of the inning so I ended the game through the miscellaneous button. I assume since the substitutions posted to the play by play, they should have been recoreded to the scoresheet. correct?

We would think so. Keep in mind there are offensive and defensive subsitutions. The scorecard will only show a substitute coming in if the offensive substitution was made. Defensive only substitutions would not appear on the scorecard. You can alway go in after the fact in the Pitch by Pitch to edit these substitutions as well. If you believe you have done the offensive substitution, and it is still not showing on the scorecard, please export your database and email us your Customer ID (bottom left of Options menu) to support@iscorecentral.com, and let us know which game, and which substitution is not appearing.

My substitutions were all defensive (pitcher, LF and CF). If I were scoring the game manually, I would have written in the defensive changes on the score sheet. Coaches want to see total number of innings played by players wether they are defensive or offensive innings in order to insure that each player has played enough innings to qualify for a Varsity letter or to satisfy the minimum league or tournament rules. iScore generally shows the defensive substitutions provided that a full inning is played. In my game last night, the game was ended after the visitors scored 3 outs at the top of the 5th. iScore posted the pitching stats for the substitute pitcher and posted the fielding stats for the substituted OFs. It would seem logical to me to also post those items to the score sheet. From a philosophical point of view, when parents look at these stats, the first thing they want to make sure that their kids performances is scored accurately and it would be nice to reflect all changes on the score sheet.

Thanks

If you always be sure to do the offensive and defensive substitution when a player is replaced then it will be on the scorecard. The issue is iScore is following a "score what you see" approach. You enter things as you see them happen. As someone watching a youth sports game you don't always know whether a defensive changed was a substitution of a double switch or just players changing positions. iScore allows you to just enter the things you see like who is in the field and who is batting and will reconcile things for you. If you happen to know it is an actual substitution you can make the offensive and defensive change at the same time.

Our league bats everyone so we only have defensive substitutions. How do I show a player came off the field for the scorecard?

You can tell by looking at the position of each player in each inning. Only one person can be in a position in any inning, so if you look at who is in what positions each inning, you can also infer who is not in the game.
